Reliable Public Transportation in Canon City
Fremont County Transit provides convenient and affordable public transportation for all ages in Canon City. This is an expansion of the Golden Shuttle which has served the senior community since 1999.
Bus service is available for the general public as an on-demand service for shopping, work, school and other activities in Canon City. Volunteer bus drivers will pick up the riders at the curbside and transport them to their destinations. "Three eight passenger busses are available and they are all equipped with wheel chair lifts." said JIm Wiles, Director. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. The cost per ride is $1.00 for seniors and $2.00 for the general public.
"We have exceeded the expected number of general public riders for the first six months." Jim said during a recent transit meeting. "We are working with several agencies in town such as Department of Human Services, West Central Mental Health, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Boys and Girls Club." Some agencies have purchased punch cards for their clients which are available in ten trip increments. Also offered is transportation for special events such as to and from local hotels for weddings. Arrangements for special events must be made well in advance.
Rather than asking the driver to wait while completing business at a destination, please schedule multiple destinaitons when making reservations. Daily route schedules are based on all ride requests for the day. Schedules are interrupted and other patrons are inconvenienced when riders delay the drivers.
